Eaton House The Manor Pre-Preparatory Message about the Head

Mr Huw May

Huw joined Eaton House Group of Schools as Headmaster of Eaton House The Manor Pre-Prep in September 2013. He is also an experienced inspector with the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate.

Huw initially spent five years training as a singer at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. Following the completion of his undergraduate and post graduate qualifications he began his career as a tenor and counter tenor. During his career Huw was appointed as a tenor lay clerk at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Cardiff. This gave Huw his first insight to teaching as he had to teach the boys singing. From these humble beginnings the Head asked Huw if he would consider teaching Pre-Prep Music which Huw did. This then grew to a full time teaching role. Huw was hooked and then undertook the relevant qualifications leading to a Masters and the National Professional Qualification for Headship.

Huw has taught all subjects and has taught up to 13+ Common Entrance. He has considerable experience as an educationalist, not only through teaching and being Head of a range of day and boarding schools but also through inspecting schools and from being a Governor of a primary school in Brighton. He is passionate about boys being given the time and challenge to develop in an active way, engaging in the curriculum and for them to take ownership of their learning to ensure its embedded for life.

With the emphasis on teaching for life within a single sex environment, the school concentrates on enabling the boys to achieve their potential, be aware of the needs of others and have a considerable amount of fun along the way. Most boys continue their education ion the Prep School when they reach the end of Form Three but a few move on to boarding schools.
