Welcome back to the Summer Term – I do hope you all had a most enjoyable Easter break. The
Summer Term is always a lovely one and I’m looking forward to spending lots of time with the girls
and with you all in my final term at the helm.
Building Works Update
As you no doubt noticed this morning the scaffolding is down and the front of the main building has
been restored to its former glory! Within the Girls’ School the loos on the ground floor have been
altered to be a little more child-friendly and accessible.
At the rear of the school the builders have maximised the time over the holidays and all the steel work
for the new building is now in place. Please do take a glance at the latest updates on the Twitter feed
The girls should be in Summer Uniform all term (green and white dresses, green cardigan, white
ankle socks, blazer and panama hat). Please may I remind you that the summer dresses are meant to
be knee length and no shorter! Blazers must be worn to school each day but may be carried home if the weather is very hot. We will apply sunscreen (Boots Soltan) to the children when needed but please inform your daughter’s form teacher if your daughter is allergic or if you wish to provide your own. On hot days may we ask you to also apply sunscreen before school. Sun caps for Games are available from Perry Uniform.
The Summer Term is always a very busy one and I would ask that you peruse the calendar carefully. Notable dates for your diary are:
2nd May: Bank Holiday, school closed
23rd May: School Swimming Galas
6th June: Exam Week (including assessments for all classes)
16th June: Parents’ Evening (no clubs)
23rd June: Senior Music Concert 6.00pm
1st July: F3 and F4 Play 6.00pm
6th July: Sports Day (no afternoon school)
In addition to the various day trips and workshops we also have three year groups on residential trips this term:
Form 6 to Chateau de Grande Romaine, Paris 25th April to 29th April
Form 4 to Ufton Court, Berkshire 3rd May to 5th May
Form 3 to Hilltop, Norfolk 11th May to 13th May
Social Media/Internet Safety
Further to my letter last term regarding the use of social media and the internet by the girls, I have arranged for the NSPCC to hold an assembly for all pupils and a workshop for girls in Forms 5 and 6 this term which will complement our lessons on internet safety and anti-bullying. We are also hosting an evening for parents run by the Parents’ Practice on ‘Parenting in the Digital Age’. More information about these events will be sent out nearer to the time.
Form 5 Parents
Just so you are aware, I will be meeting with all your girls individually over the next couple of weeks to hear them read and to discuss their targets from last term’s reports. This is in preparation for their Summer Term exams where they will be sitting their first mock 11+ exams.
Many thanks to Claire Price for organising our very successful 2015 Christmas Fair. We are now looking for somebody (or possibly a small committee) to organise the 2016 Fair. As we need to set the date quite quickly, please may I ask that anyone interested gets in touch with me as soon as possible so that we can arrange a meeting and handover session. Thank you very much indeed!
We look forward to a busy and fun Summer Term – with hopefully our fair share of sunshine! As always, should you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to get in touch.
With best wishes,
11th January 2016
Welcome back to the Spring Term. I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with your families.
Calendars will be in your daughter’s reading folder this afternoon and they may also be viewed on our website. Some key dates for your diary:
We are delighted to welcome Miss Rebecca as Head of Science (maternity cover) and Miss Emma (St. Edward’s, Oxford) as our new Gap Assistant this term
Reception for Mr Oliver Snowball
A reminder that there will be a reception to welcome Mr Snowball at 6.00pm in the Theatre on Tuesday 12th January. He is very much looking forward to meeting you all.
Building Works Update
The building works have continued over the holidays and everything is very much on track. Don’t forget that you can see regular updates and pictures on the twitter feed @baxallsEHS.
Please be aware that his weekend scaffolding will be erected at the front of the school, to allow us to repair a section of damaged decorative cornicing on the front of the building. Hopefully it will not need to be up for too long!
There are still places left in a number of school clubs, please email the member of staff in charge if you wish your daughter to join one. A clubs list and a list of all staff emails may be found on the calendar. Please remember that places in Early Morning Room and Homework Class are free of charge, but limited in number, so do email Miss Nicola firstname.lastname@example.org in order to secure a place for your daughter.
A reminder that we recommend all girls have an eyesight test at around 5 years of age. These tests are easily booked at an optician and the cost is covered by the NHS.
7th January, 2016
A huge thank you to last year’s form reps for all their hard work and input. We had some amazing events and raised a great deal of money for charity along the way. I think I have the names of most of the new form reps for 2016 and look forward to seeing you at our first meeting which will take place after morning drop off on Friday 15th January in the Art Room.As ever, if you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
With best wishes
