A very warm welcome back to Eaton House after the summer holidays, I do hope the boys have enjoyed themselves and are refreshed and ready for the term ahead! We welcome 50 new boys into Year 4 this term, many from our Pre-Prep, and I look forward to getting to know them all in due course. I will be teaching Reasoning to all boys in Year 5 and Year 6 and hosting breakfasts for boys in Years 7 and 8 on Friday mornings and will endeavour to get to know your sons as soon as possible.
We welcome Mary Christie onto the staff team this term. Mary is our form teacher in 4MC and joins us from Mayfield Primary School in Cambridge where she was teaching Year 5. We also welcome Guy Tillson as our Gap Assistant for the term, fresh from Dulwich College, and one of our distinguished old boys.
Ms Mary Pedder (Year 6 English) is expecting her second baby later this Autumn and will be heading off on maternity leave in October. Recruitment for this position is currently underway and I shall let you know once we have appointed her replacement.
Parents’ Information Evening
There will be a Parents’ Information Evenings for all forms next week which will provide an excellent opportunity for you to get to know your son’s new form teacher and to get an overview of the year. The evenings will be split between the Theatre (where I will give a short talk to the year group) and the Form Rooms (where the form teachers will talk in more detail about the routines and expectations within that class). If you have sons in more than one year group I suggest you attend the higher year group session, as hopefully you will be familiar with the younger years. Please see the arrangements below:
|Tuesday 13th September||Year 4||6.00pm||Classrooms, then move to Theatre at 6.45pm. After my talk there will be an informal drinks party for all Year 4 parents and staff.|
|Tuesday 13th September||Year 5||6.00pm||Theatre, then to classrooms at approximately 6.30pm|
|Tuesday 14th September||Year 6||6.00pm||Theatre, then to classrooms at approximately 6.30pm|
|Tuesday 14th September||Year 7||7.00pm||Theatre, then to classrooms at approximately 7.30pm|
|Tuesday 14th September||Year 8||7.00pm||Theatre, then to classrooms at approximately 7.30pm|
I am pleased to announce that there are three new clubs running this term. Please email the relevant teacher to secure a place for your son.
Early Morning Room and Homework Class
I would like to tighten up the arrangements for both these sessions to ensure we have the correct supervision in place. If you would like your son to attend either of these sessions please email Miss Kate Bullock email@example.com and she will add your son’s name to the register. Early Morning Room will now take place in the Library with Mr Tillson and boys should make their way directly there at 8.00am.
I am delighted to report that the final phase of our development work is on track and due to be finished in April. We are looking forward to our new science lab, DT lab, dining rooms and playground with great excitement. Do keep checking in on the Twitter feed to see photos and updates @BaxallEHS
I am keen to ensure the boys present their work neatly. Please may I ask that from Year 5 boys use fountain pens (e.g. Lamy) with blue washable ink for their written work. I understand that some boys in Years 6, 7 and 8 may have used a friction pen last year but I hope that they will not find the transition to fountain pen too onerous. If you think your son may have a particular difficulty with this then please discuss it with your son’s form tutor.
An electronic version of the calendar will be sent out today, and the card copies will follow in due course – apologies for the delay with this.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you all at the Information Evenings next week, but in the meantime if you have any queries please do not hesitate to get in touch. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org and I can be reached on the main school telephone number. Appointments may be made through Kate Bullock email@example.com
With very best wishes
Mrs Sarah Segrave
Welcome back to you all and I hope you had a wonderful summer. I would like to extend a warm welcome to the
new Yellow Room children and their families to the nursery. We hope your little ones settle easily and start to love
their time at nursery.
We have an open door policy where you are very welcome to speak to the class teacher and assistants for a few
minutes each day but please arrange a different time for something that might take longer to discuss. We will email
all correspondence and in addition to this, I will send all initial letters and the Nursery calendar home on paper. Do
please let us know if your email address has changed. You will also find a white board near the entrance to each
classroom telling you about the weekly Show and Tell theme and other information.
We appreciate any volunteers who would like to come and read to the children, help out with swimming or out on
school visits. The children love to share their time at Nursery with Mummy and Daddy or any other special person.
As part of the Early Years curriculum we make many observations on the children, however it is very important that
we also know about any significant achievements outside of Nursery. This can be anything from recognising a
number in the street, to riding a bike or staying in their bed all night. We have a WOW observation form for you to
complete and return back to your class teacher. This can be done at any time during the term.
Dates for your diary
Parents’ Evening will be held on Wednesday 23rd November when you can discuss your child’s progress. Details will
be given nearer the time. We also have a Long Weekend this term, Friday 18th November.
Lastly, we would really appreciate it if you could you bring in old newspapers, plastic bags and recycling for junk
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come and see me.
