Eaton House The Manor Preparatory Headmaster’s Letter

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

Dear Parents,

Staff News
I am afraid we will have to say goodbye to Mrs Laura Williams in July; after seven years on the staff of EHTM, she will be taking a break from teaching to look after her two young children and possibly move out of London.  She has been an excellent, dedicated  colleague and we thank Mrs Williams for all the splendid work she has done in the geography department here and wish her every happiness in all her future ventures.

We have appointed Miss Aideen Seymour to be our new Head of Geography for September and she will also be a Year 7 form tutor.  Miss Seymour graduated from University College, Cork in 2002 with a joint honours degree in Geography and History.  She completed her Higher Diploma in Education in 2005 and has been teaching abroad (in Oman) and in the UK since then. For the last two years she has been teaching at Latymer Prep School in Hammersmith.

With our new Year 4 intake expanding to three classes in September, Miss Louise Mackie joins us as a Year 4 class teacher.  Miss Mackie graduated from Nottingham University in 2009 with an honours degree in Classical Civilisation and has been teaching this year at Horsmonden Primary School whilst completing her Graduate Teacher Training Programme.

Quiz Night : Friday 25th May
Our charity Quiz Night takes place next week and Mr Jeans has been busy researching lots of challenging questions for staff and parents to puzzle over.  Whether your area of expertise is politics, history, the tube stations of London or dodgy 80s pop bands, this is the quiz for you!  We still have space for more parents to attend and we would love to see you here next Friday.  If you want to book a table of eight or wish to come along on your own, please contact Jane Doxford, my PA, as soon as possible.  We are keen to finalise numbers by Tuesday 22nd May.

The doors open at 6.45pm, the quiz begins at 7.00pm and we will supply table cloths, cutlery and wine glasses.  There will be an auction on the night to raise funds for Trinity Hospice and, if you are able to donate a prize, please get in touch with Mr Lennox-Hilton or Jane Doxford as soon as possible.

For those who have already signed up, a few words about what you need to bring :
(a)  A picnic supper (to be consumed at around 8.30 when Mr Jeans takes a break from asking questions)
(b)  Liquid refreshments (although drinks will be available on the night).

Diamond Jubilee Celebration : Friday 1st June
On Friday 1st June, we will be holding our very own celebration for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  We will be asking the boys to dress up in clothes appropriate to a particular decade of the Queen’s 60-year reign.  The Year 4 boys will be dressing in clothes from the 50s, Year 5 – the 60s, Year 6 – the 70s, Year 7 – the 80s and Year 8 – the 90s.  We would, of course, like to see as much red, white and blue as possible!

After a special picnic at lunchtime there will be some Diamond Jubilee-inspired games on the Common and school will finish slightly early at 3.00pm. Please arrange to collect your son at 3.00pm.  There will be no after-school clubs on 1st June and the school buses will leave at 3.05 pm.

Yours sincerely,
Jeremy Edwards
